Day 4: Some relaxation…and some drama

Vacation is hard work.
We needed to sleep in a bit today.
Did we mention we have bunk beds in our room?
They are pretty cool.

We also share a hallway with a family from Puerto Rico—
We’ve been exchanging Q&A’s and little gifts all week.

Today we’re docked at Costa Maya
But none of the excursions really peaked our interest.
So we decided to hang out on the ship
And wander on shore when we felt like it.

After breakfast in Central Park
(The bagels were especially delicious according to Mom),
We hit the pools

They were rather empty
Which was a nice change for the week

It was a nice, lazy morning

We came into this vacation
with a mission to find a turtle for our back deck—
And we were hopeful Costa Maya would be the place we’d find it.

We wandered in and out of a lot of shops.
We didn’t find a tortuga
But we DID find an awesome hammerhead shark!
(We’ll have to get a picture once it’s hung)

With our purchase in hand,
We headed for the ship
But stopped for a quick picture
But then,
The dock authorities stopped all the Icon passengers on the dock.
And the rumors started to fly.
There were lots of crazy theories and stories going around
But when the dust settled
We learned there was a fire in the engine room
And electricity to parts of the ship were shut down.
People reacted to this differently—
Our family thought they’d figure it out and we’ll be on our way shortly.
Aunt Mandy worried we’d be evacuated and her family grabbed clothes and passports.
Mema headed to get cookies and beer before heading for the pool.
To each their own!

After about a 10 minute wait,
They let us board the ship.
Nothing slowed us down—
We grabbed our lunch and headed back to the pool

It was a HOT day
And not many people in the hot tubs…
And we were happy to have them all to ourselves!

We probably need some selfies too

And happened to take the BEST selfie of the whole trip
Grumpy faces for all

Dinner was Caribbean themed tonight
And with a lovely sunset,
We needed a few more pictures

Of the boys

And the girls

The Klusmeyers clean up well

But THIS is the better picture

And Mema and Pappo

And a good one of all of us

We tried out pub trivia tonight—
And WON!
We got all sorts of Royal Caribbean swag to share

We had the ice show tonight—
Starburst: Elemental Beauty—
Which was a kinda funky but kinda cool show
Based on the periodic table.
There was a juggler that juggled sideways and on the ground
That Mom really liked
But we were less impressed with.

We snuck in to see some of the Aqua Action show again
(We apparently saw a shortened show our night because of the waves—
We had to see what we missed!)
Before we headed up to the top deck for some mini golf.
It was the BEST mini golf course we’ve ever seen on a cruise ship!
It’s better than some courses we’ve done on land!

Some pub music and darts rounded out the night

Along with another amazing moon.
What will tomorrow bring?
