Trying something new

We are really looking forward to our Wednesday night meets
these days!

This week Weston didn't have as great a week...

He swam hard, but added 8 seconds,
coming in at 52 seconds.

I, on the other hand, killed it!

I shaved off a full second, coming in at 33 seconds

But the best part?
I came in first in my heat!!!

This week,
Coach Grey thought I was ready for something new...
backstroke.
I was NOT thrilled.
I was really nervous.

But check this out...

Yep, that's me
beating everyone else in my heat by over 10 seconds.
I came in at a little over 39 seconds,
7th out of 16.
Not too shabby!

Weston's new event?
He made a freestyle relay team!

And, he's off!
His team came in last,
but they sure swam their hearts out!

Until next week...

One last game

I'm a bit sad to see my 2nd baseball season come to an end.
It's been fun,
everyone trekking out to the ballpark
for some good ol' baseball!
Grammy J, Grandma P, and Papa Kim came too!

My batting has improved--
I got one hit...

and then a second!

And I'm usually an eager and enthusiastic fielder too

Yep, it's been a good season, Royals!
Thanks for the fun!

The season continues

We're really enjoying swim team!
It's Wednesday, so you know what that means...
MEET TIME!
Mack and I
with our photo-bomber

This was our first away meet.
Oak Tree Farms had blocks,
so that was something new.
I chose to dive off the side
(I'm in lane 4).
My goal today was to not come in last.

I swam my heart out!
I not only beat 1 kid,
I beat 2!
And I tore another 17 seconds off my time--
down to 44 seconds!
Awesome, right???

Jack was up next.
He's in lane 2.
He decided to try out the blocks

He got a nice dive off the blocks

He shaved off 1.5 seconds.
Another personal best!

We are ROCKIN' the 25 yard freestyle.
It must be our lucky charm.

Jack's other event was the 100 yard freestyle relay.
He likes swimming on a team.

Pull hard!
Kick fast!
They got second.
Not too bad!
Next week...
I'm hoping for a relay spot.
And I'm going to try out the 25 yard backstroke.
Maybe Jack will join me...

A Father's Day bust...with a reprieve

All that fun at the cabin,
then Coleman's swimming party,
and now we are headed to Sporting KC?
Geez.
I'm beat.

The Sporting game ended up
a bit of a bummer.
Mom didn't know our tickets were
general admission
(they appeared to have a row and seat number).
Not much chance of getting 5 together
if you arrive after the game starts.

We made the best of it
and found a cool spot in the shade
to watch the action

We still managed to smile at the end.

Did you say we were going for ice cream?
Dad's pick since it's Father's Day?
Onward!

At least the presents were good...
We were excited to present it...
We'd been working on it for the last week...

 Surprise!
A picture for your office, Dad!

A picture with all the artists

I was SUPER excited to give Dad my present--
a new coffee mug

And Weston made him some
coupons for chores around the house

Jack made a card...
and then decided not to give it to him.
Maybe next year.

I think this says it all:
Happy Dad's Day!

Friends to the Cabin

Mom and Dad rather suddenly
had a weekend free.
So we headed to the cabin
for some fun on the lake.

And we brought friends!
Our first non-family guests!
Mom and Dad's friends Jessica and Josh
and their boys Blake and Carson
joined us!

We had to show them the zipline
and how to catch lightning bugs

and of course, Jerry came out!

Everyone enjoyed time with Jerry

There was a lot of jumping to do!

Onto Jerry

and into the water

Josh even did some throwing...

Some serious air!
We spent the whole day on the water,
which is impressive since the parents were up partying
until 3:30 the night before!

Blake is 5 and he and Weston were quick friends.
Carson is 3 like me.
I was so happy to have a friend my age!
I was even more thrilled when he slept in my bed with me!
(I'm always jealous of Jack and Wes buddying up)

We are DEFINITELY going to have the Brunkhorsts
down again!

Helpers

I'm pretty good at sorting silverware.
But I'm still mentoring Tucker...

Swim meet, take 2

We set some new goals for this swim team season--
Jack wants to shave 10 seconds off his 33.7 second freestyle time
and I want to make it to the end of the pool
without touching the rope or the sides

Today, we made some progress.

Jack swam on the medley relay team for the first time--
he was the freestyle leg.
His team took 2nd out of 3 teams

I was up next with the 25 yard freestyle.
Me and Mom had a pep talk before the race.
Adjust my goggles nice and tight,
just keep swimming, aim for midway down the pool,
do the crawl stroke when I could.

Well, it must have worked.
Not only did I make it to the end of the pool
without stopping,
I shaved 27 seconds from my time--
Down to 1:01 from 1:28!!!
I don't know who was more excited,
me or Mom!

Jack took off 0.2 seconds,
down to 33.5.

Making progress, right???

Recovery

After all that action,
we needed a down day

Full of legos

and lego/animal villages
complete with an arcade and swimming pool
(sound familiar?)

Recovery...at Bear Camp!

Not all of us stayed home to chill.
Dad and I headed to Bear Camp early this morning!

It was a blast.

We did some hiking

Worked on my marksmanship

Built a tool box

Look, "TN" for Theodore Naish Camp

And put on a skit for the whole camp
(ours was The Invisible Bench)

After Taps,
it was lights out!

The next day was filled with campfire cooking

Fishing

games (like Wombat and Rice, Rice, Rice)
and a trip through a lost mine

Our crew:
This might just keep me interested in
Cub Scouts one more year...
