Day 1: Jack’s dream (obsession) come true

Jackson learned that Royal Caribbean
(Already his favorite cruise line)
Was designing and building
The biggest, greatest, most iconic cruise ship every seen…
The Icon of the Seas.

Back in August 2023,
After pitching the idea to Mema and Pappo,
Much to the delight of Jackson
And after hours of web searches and text conversations,
We were booked on a 7-night cruise
On the most iconic ship in history.

We’re had 100’s of days to dream about it…
And the day has finally arrived!

After a very weird and very long “express” check-in,
We were walking up the gangway…

One more picture to capture the anticipation…

And we’re HERE!
We needed a picture at the Pearl
To mark the event
(Ask Jack about the Pearl—
I think it’s part of the support structure of the ship)
The Pearl is really cool—
The tiles move, the colors change.
It became a fixture in our week.

We like to explore the ship deck by deck in our first hours on board.
So away we go!

We mustered, we ate lunch in Central Park,
We checked out Surfside

We visited the kids/adults lemonade bar

We made it all the way from Deck 3 to Deck 15/16/17 and the pools

There are lots of cool places to sit!

And then back to Deck 10 to check out our Infinity Balcony.
It’s a window that comes down,
Creating a balcony effect.
It’s pretty cool but we kind of miss the traditional balcony.

Our travel agent sent us a little going-away gift!

It all made for a good sail-away!

Then we headed to dinner and were SO excited
To have 2 window tables
And meet our servers for the week—
Ariawan and Prakash

After dinner,
We were back out, exploring the ship

And returned to Playmakers,
The sports bar of the ship,
While we waited for our evening show
(We have one booked just about every night).
They happen to have arcade games
Which goes well with our arcade package

They have pool and foosball too!

Once it was time to go into the theater,
We claimed a few of the boxes
Because why not?
It was a pretty good first night show—
A comedian/juggler.

Then we wandered to the Pearl Cafe for some late-night snacks
(And wrestling?)

Because we needed sustenance for the midnight balloon drop!
They apparently had one of these on the last Royal cruise we went on—
How’d we miss that?

If today is any indication,
This is going to be an ICONIC vacation!
