I have been talking incessantly about CocoCay
since Mema announced it was a part of our itinerary 3 years ago.
I've read all the blog posts, done all the research,
and now WE'RE HERE!
Looks like it's gonna be
a perfect day!
Mema rented us a cabana
so we could all chill out together
but we couldn't wait to get to the Thrill Park!
We headed to Splash Summit first.
It had 6 slides--
the Slingshot, where we flew waaaay up a wall
and then plummeted back down;
the Twister, which was a tube slide
(we skipped this one--we've done similar
at Oceans of Fun and Great Wolf Lodge
and the line was really long);
and 4 racing slides
which we rode 3 or 4 times
because, well, why not?
(pardon the blur--water on the lens)
We took a ride in the wave pool
and then we headed to Daredevil's Tower
for 7 more slides
We were REALLY excited to ride
Daredevil's Peak,
the tallest waterslide in North America.
But turns out,
we needed to get in the virtual line
when we first arrived.
Boo. Wish we had known that!
So we settled for all the other slides.
We tried the Mamba first--
a cool, twisty tube slide.
Then we tried the Manta racers--
more side-by-side racing slides.
And then we did the Screeching Serpent.
It's described as a "50 foot tall fully vertical
speed slide"--which is exactly what it is.
We all free-fell for 50 feet before flying down a tube
praying we'd slow down at the end.
Dad said Tucker skipped when he hit the water at the end.
Mom said the lifeguard at the top said
"I'll never understand you people" as she got on
(and then received the biggest enema of her life).
Whelp, don't need to do that one twice.
Then we got in line for the Dueling Demons,
2 vertical drop slides that looked amazing.
But, just as Weston and I were climbing in,
one of the guards asked Mom if we had tickets for Daredevil.
She said we didn't but he said,
"You guys can just go on up."
WHAT?!?!
Yes, sir!
So we jumped out of the drop slide tubes
and headed up the bazillion steps
to the slide.
We were in line around 20 minutes,
just 8 people away from our turn...
when the lightning alarm went off.
Seriously?!?!?
So we all headed down the stairs
in what we dubbed The Walk of Shame.
The guards said to check back in in 30 minutes.
We decided we should grab some lunch anyway.
I was really excited to get The Secret Sandwich
from The Snack Shack
(a chicken sandwich topped with mozzarella sticks--
you have to ask for it! Not on the menu...)
and my brothers all got distracted by
the Adventure pool.
Tucker stole the show
with an upside-down trip on the rope swing
Beckett was not about to be outdone
and Weston wanted to prove
he could make it across the pool
without using the ropes
What we hoped would be a quick afternoon shower
started to roll in,
so Mom and Tuck headed for the bathroom
while we finished up our sandwiches.
We planned to meet them
and then head to the taco hut for more lunch.
But Mom got lost.
One final picture of Tucker...
before a torrential downpour started.
Mom and Tuck never found the bathroom
but were able to find the taco hut.
Unfortunately,
WE DID find the bathroom...
but no Mom and Tuck.
So while they shivered out the storm
with tacos and cookies in hand,
we shivered in the bathroom.
(No one had a phone.
No reception anyway.)
But all was not lost.
The storm eventually let up,
Mom stopped us loafing by,
and we all had some tacos and cookies
while most of the other guests decided
they'd had enough of a "Perfect Day."
As the rain stopped,
it occurred to us that the Daredevil
might just open back up.
So we raced over and, sure enough,
the line was starting to form again.
We ran back up a bazillion stairs
and stood at the "30 minutes from here" sign.
But it was FREEZING.
Even Dad and I were shivering.
After about 15 minutes
and not a lot of movement in the line,
Dad, Tuck and Beck decided they'd had enough
and settled for a ride on our
earlier-abandoned Dueling Demons.
Mom, Wes and I stuck it out.
Weirdly, 2 teens pushed passed us to "find their uncle"
and then a girl asked if she could go in front of us
to join her sister (who was actually there).
We watched all these people go done.
Weston was up next.
His hand was on the rail.
And...THE LIGHTNING ALARM WENT OFF AGAIN!
So to reiterate,
if we hadn't let 3 people cut in front of us,
WE WOULD HAVE RIDDEN THE SLIDE!!!
Boo.
Guess some things weren't meant to be.
We headed to the cabana for a last swim
in the Oasis Pool
before trudging back to the ship.
Despite my initial insistence,
I suppose it wasn't a perfect day in CocoCay.
But we still had a good time.
And left with plenty of stories.
After an obligatory dip in the ship's pool
and a cocktail,
we got cleaned up
and headed for dinner.
We patiently waited for what we thought was going to be
one big table for all of us.
But we ended up at 2 tables again,
side by side.
We can make the best of it!
You'd think we'd be tired after a day
at the water park
but we were just getting started!
Our diving show was cancelled due to the rain
but we found plenty to do.
We hit the Bionic Bar again
and then the Riptide Bar
(the one that goes up and down
between the Promenade
and Central Park)
Cheers everyone1
Then the adults went to the casino
while Wes, Beck and I wandered the ship
and Tuck checked out the kids club.
We were so excited to get our first towel animal of the trip:
Whew!
Rain or shine,
we are living up this cruise!
