Washington Day 3: A little hiking and a lot of driving

Everyone was begging for a lighter day today,

So Mom picked out some short hikes throughout the park.

The problem—they are a bit spread out.

Roadtrip!

The first stop was Sol Duc Falls—

Which required a lovely walk through the woods

There were some lovely streams

And the trees were gorgeous

And then we made it to the falls

They were pretty cool

We took a break to take int he view

And then Chip got the brilliant idea to go to the middle of the falls

For a family picture.

At first we thought he was crazy,

But then we saw the picture:

And needed one too!

Maybe a selfie too

Our next stop was Hoh Rainforest…

Which had a long line to get in.

So we had a walking lunch

As we crawled towards the entrance

We made it inside and headed for the Hall of Mosses

And the Spruce Nature Trail

It didn’t take long to figure out where the

Hall of Mosses gets its name

The trees were HUGE too

And lots of them appeared to be growing in the air.

We learned they grew around a nursery log

Which has since disintegrated.  Cool.

The rainforest was truly awesome

Worthy of lots of pictures

We came to the Hoh River on our hikes

It was way too cold for wading
But perfect for rock throwing

For our last stop,
We drove through the infamous Forks,
Home to the Twilight series.
There were a lot of vampire jokes on this trip.

Then back to the park…

To our last stop—
Rialto Beach

It was really picturesque

We were ready to dip our toes in the water!

The parents enjoyed their happy hour stroll

The pictures speak for themselves:

This is the formation that is in a lot of the Olympic NP pictures

We had fun exploring the tide pools—
We planned our hike for low tide!

Look at those sea anemones!

And then we made it to the end of the hike—
Hole in the Wall

Wonder why it’s call that?  ;)

Some group pics on the rocks

And in the Hole!

That rock is really pretty.

The highlight though
Was probably the sea lions

There was a whole group of them!

A pretty place

With a lot to explore

It was a good day

Team Kreed conquers 8 more miles!
