Washington Day 1: Strawberries and beaches

This morning before we headed out of Seattle,
Dad and Chip met up with Adam, another fraternity brother,
For some breakfast.
They had some catching up to do.

And then, we were on our way
Through cloudy Washington
To Sequim

But what’s a roadtrip without some stops?
We saw a berry patch and thought we should pull over

They were EVERYWHERE!

We couldn’t help but just keep picking

They were the sweetest, juiciest berries we’d ever had

Between the 11 of us,
We ended up with over 10 pounds

We’ll eat them!

Our next stop was the beach—
Dungeness Spit
But to get to the beach,
We had to hike the forest first.

We were introduced to banana slugs
For perspective,
This guy is about 8 inches long
And as big around as a hot dog.

The trees were lovely

But the beach was better

The Pacific was cold
But that didn’t stop Beck from wandering in

There was lots to take in.

It was really peaceful.

We needed a group picture

And then we strolled back

We got to the house…
And found that it hadn’t been cleaned.
Our host was mortified;
There had apparently been a miscommunication with the cleaners.

The boys could care less—
They were HIGHLY preoccupied by the golf cart.

Our host offered to buy us dinner
While the crew quickly came over to work—
Free dinner?
Burgers and beers?
And funky live music with Beans and Gravy?
(Or was it Biscuits and Greens?
Who knows—no one could remember
And it became the joke of the week).
Heck yes, we’ll take it!

Rest up, everyone.
Mom has big plans for tomorrow…
