SD Day 6: Bonus Day at the Omaha Zoo

Jack and Wes’s robotics competition was pushed back a day
So rather than pushing all the way home,
We booked a site at the Omaha KOA
And thought it would be a great time to return.
Guess what—it’s been about 10 years since we were here too!

We learned why it has the reputation
Of being the best zoo in the country.

First we toured the jungle dome—
Do you see this lumpy rock looking thing?
It’s bats.
All bats.

Beck got up close with a Pygmy hippo

And Mom was totally enamored
With the giraffes.

Ok,
We were all pretty enamored with the giraffes

They were just so close

And cute!

Speaking of cute—
The elephant herd is currently 5 moms
And 5 babies!

Aren’t they cute?

Have you ever seen a lion sleep on its back?

How about a snow leopard in the fur?

The apes were so close too

Just doing their thang

Or brooding

Tuck wanted a picture with the model

Not sure if he posed for this one or not…
He looks like he could fit right in

This is Ruby.
She apparently loves to snuggle up in blankets like this

We managed to make it through the entire park,
Seeing every single exhibit.
We saved the best for last—
The nocturnal land.
You walk over bridges
Where crocodiles and beavers
Are swimming underneath you.
It was so creepy.  And so cool.

Oh wait.
There was one more stop—
the aquarium
There were SO MANY sharks and fish and rays
And even a really old octopus
We worked up an appetite
After all that walking.
Jack played tour guide again
And directed us to Block 16,
Touted to be the best burgers in Omaha.
We have to admit,
They were amazing.

We had a finale of a night
With Giant Throw Throw Burrito

Dessert around the campfire

And one last game of Monopoly Deal
It’s been a good trip.
