SD Day 3: City and creek hopping

A storm rolled in last night,
Keeping us up and taking in the lightning
Late into the night.

So we slept in a bit today
And enjoyed our leisurely breakfast

Before heading out for our city-seeing day.
We took the Spearfish Scenic Byway

And found our first stop:
Bridal Veil Falls

Everyone outta the car
And  say cheese for a family selfie!

Our next stop was our hike of the day—
Devil’s Bathtub.
We followed this lovely creek
As it wound through the woods

We knew we’d have to cross the creek a few times

But a few became a LOT

The scenery was lovely
Even if it was a gray day

Another cross over

And another…

And the trail started to change from forest
To creekside

Mom and Dad got tired of crossing
And thought they could scale the wall instead
Doesn’t she look awesome?
She fell in about 2 seconds after this picture.

But some wet boots didn’t stop us from getting to the end

And enjoying the view

And then…
We had to head back…

Our next stop was Sturgis
But without the motorcycle rally going on,
It was really dead.

Speaking of dead,
Our last stop of the day was Deadwood,
A town known for its Wild West shenanigans.
But in the rain,
It was a bit quiet.

We did some shopping
Including stopping in to get Grandma P
A Tootsie shirt in honor of her sister
Tootsie was an infamous pet coyote
And was why the coyote was designated the state animal of South Dakota

We walked the streets,
Taking in the 100s of casinos and other sites

Before settling in at Saloon 10,
The bar where Wild Bill Hickok was killed.
Travelled 100s of miles and found ourselves in a pub…
It’s what we do.
The we tried out an awesome pizza restaurant
Called Independent Ale House.
Highly recommend!
Then we stayed up way too late playing
Monopoly Deal—
Ask Weston about it.
It’s apparently the only game he can’t win.

A laid back day was just what we needed!
