We’re going to need to eat all the strawberries
And French toast we can get
To fuel up for today’s hike!
Today we’re headed into Olympic Nation Park,
Specifically Hurricane Ridge.
Mom picked out a trail to Mt. Angeles,
One of the highest peaks in the park.
It was a foggy start to the day
And stayed foggy for quite a while
Did we mention it was foggy?
But the fog was kinda cool
It did clear up as we hiked
The scenery was really pretty
We asked Mom about this hike—
She said it was along a ridge.
We claim she followed that we “so it’s relatively flat.”
She claims that’s not what she said…
Because the trail got a bit treacherous…
We had to cross a few snow fields
And it ended in 1300 foot accent
In less than a mile.
It was a BEAST
Then half of us took a wrong turn,
Working our way up the wrong side of the mountain.
It was really sketchy getting back down
But when we got back on the right path,
It was worth it!
This view is pretty great,
But the trail actually goes a little further,
Around the rock face on the right…
Whoa.
We’re on top of the world!
Great place for lunch!
Not sure what is cooler—
If we could see the land out there
Or watching the stretches of clouds float by
Definitely need a group photo
Before we headed back down
Dad always makes this took easy
There was a bit of sliding,
A lot of crab walking,
And even more admiring the view
Jack took some incredible pictures—
You should ask to see them!
Unsurprisingly,
Going down was much easier than going up,
Even the snow fields
This guy took to running in spots,
Which scared the poo out of Mom and Dad
With a 6 mile trek,
There was some potty stops along the way—
Mom was so glad not to have to go alone for once!
How about those Team Kreed hats?
Chris is a crafting genius
The fog backed off quite a bit on the way back
Instead of being surrounded by clouds,
We could appreciate how crazy steep these hills
And our ridge path were
At the end,
The clouds really abated
Hurricane Ridge is gorgeous!
We needed one more picture
Look what we found at the end?
A marmot!
Turns out,
These guys are everywhere in Washington
And have the weirdest scream/cry—
It sounds like some sort of whistle.
Highly memorable.
We thought it was some sort of bear whistle when we first heard it.
6.9 miles later,
We just wanted to get back to the hot tub
And yoga room at the house…
Maybe some pool too
Mom decided to brave the golf cart
And head through the Olympic Forest
To the Dungeness River running behind the house
That was a crazier hike than most of us were expecting.
Mom’s hike planning privileges may be revoked.
We’ll see what she has planned for tomorrow…
