Pappo started it,
but soon we all got in on torturing Jackson
with tricks in is room and bed.
Seemed like the right way to start off
our last day in Tahoe
That would be a bear.
Enough shenanigans--
it's time to hike!
We headed to South Tahoe
to Emerald Bay
for a highly recommended hike
We're headed for Eagle Lake.
It's about a mile away--
a short hike by our standards.
There was a split in the path
just a little ways in:
one way went up to a lookout,
the other when straight (and flat)
to Upper Eagle Falls.
We chose up,
Mema and Pappo chose straight.
Up had a lovely view!
There were all sorts of rocks to scramble over
and crevices to explore.
Before we could head down,
Mema and Pappo appeared!
Apparently the straight/flat way
became VERY not flat
and VERY covered in ice/snow.
So they went off roading and found their way to us.
Onward!
There were some beautiful old trees
we just had to hug
and the Upper Falls were lovely
But before too long
(i.e. about 1/3 of a mile up the mountain),
the path became snowpacked
and a rather treacherous.
Mema and Pappo decided
that was as far as they needed to go
and asked us to take a picture for them
at the top.
We needed a picture before they headed back down too!
The Reeds trudged on.
It was an unexpected hike,
moving through a LOT of snow.
There was a lot of slipping and sliding
and even some falling into rock moats
(it's that a cool name?
we heard another hiker call it that!)
It took about an hour,
but we made it to Eagle Lake!
It was pretty
Very serene.
And then it was time to trek back
There were some beautiful views
of Lake Tahoe and Emerald Bay
along the way
And I had to add to a cairn!
We haven't made one this whole trip!
Nice.
We met back up with Mema and Pappo
at the bottom.
They had scoped out the Emerald Bay lookout
and said it was worth a stop.
They were right!
We could have sat there for hours--
which is saying something!
We don't sit anywhere for hours!
We had lunch at a local brewery,
did some shopping
(ok, a LOT of shopping.
Wish we had stopped by Heavenly Village earlier--
what a cool place!),
and headed back to the house
for some family time and one last dinner.
We squeezed a lot into our 4 days,
but do you know what we didn't do?
Touch Lake Tahoe.
I know, right??!?!
Guess we have to come back!
