We woke this morning to a screen full of mosquitos
Just dying to get in and chew on us
Grateful for screens today!
Grateful for a gorgeous morning too.
After Mom swearing it was “lightening” all day yesterday,
It was awesome to actually see the sun.
Check out our Star in all it’s glory
After all the rain yesterday,
We had a lot of towels and clothes in need of a breeze and some sun
And with a bit bet of $30 for the first fish
And $25 for the biggest fish,
We had some people in need of some fishing too
Everyone was out
And it was a great morning for it
Lots of nibbles
But Dad was the winner!
A big ol’ Northern Pike!
Randolph Bay was a lovely spot,
But we have a big plan for today.
We’re headed to Mica Bay for a little sightseeing
And then to a houseboat site on a little island all by itself.
And, we’re off!
We stopped to do some swimming in the middle of the lake
Just across from Mica Bay.
We did some sliding, some paddleboarding,
And the best—jumping from the top deck!
It was 180 feet deep!
We had shifted the dingy so that the slide was clear…
And then forgot that it wasn’t hooked up right
As we starting to take off again.
So…we nearly submerged it!
It was vertical for a hot minute,
Getting sucked under the houseboat.
Good thing Chip was fast with the bailing!
And that Dad was fast with the recon to gather all the stuff
That dumped out of the boat!
Luckily, everything was recovered…
except the kill-switch for the motor.
We’ll figure it out.
The day is beautiful
Everyone is feeling good
We got our workouts in
And we’re loving the park.
Before we knew it, we arrived at our destination for the night.
It was an unregistered houseboat site,
Scouted out by Voyagaire, our houseboat company,
But not the park service.
We weren’t sure what to expect.
We weren’t entirely sure we had found the right island!
We were navigating by a GPS app
And a HUGE map mounted to plywood on the kitchen table.
So we sent in our reconnaissance team
To scout out the site
It’s looking pretty good!
Actually, it was WONDERFUL!
The entire island was probably 75 yards long by 30 yards wide
With a little saddle across the middle.
We were quick to park, settle in, and start playing!
There was sliding and driving the dingy.
And there was a LOT of paddleboarding.
We even had a visit from the Voyagaire Team.
We were worried we were in trouble for something—
Couldn’t stay on the island or something—
But turns out they were just coming around to let us know
The radio channel had changed for communication with the marina.
When we let them know about the lost kill-switch
(Without the details of how it was lost),
They gave us some zip-ties to keep the motor running.
I love it when plans work out!
Mom and Chris headed out for a Mom Adventure.
How often do you get to SUP around your own private island??
Chip was determined to catch a fish…
And check out his catch!
Dad is still in the lead.
The evening was beautiful.
After all that swimming and such,
We decided we probably needed showers.
But if the shower is just lake water,
Doesn’t a lake shower sound like a lot more fun?
So that is what we all did—
A first for the Keims.
Isn’t this beautiful?
Calls for a dingy dinner cruise!
Cohen and I will be your captains.
Everyone seems to be enjoying the ride
And the SUP crew even came out to join us!
We couldn’t get enough of the good weather
(By the way—I’m sitting on the roof of our bedroom.
You get the picture of it’s size…)
There was more fishing
And a lovely happy hour
And a lot of memorable views:
After dinner, before the mosquitos came out in full force,
we made a lovely campfire
Because what better way to top off camping on a houseboat
On your own private island
Than with s’mores?
Finished with the generator off at 10:00pm
And another LOUD game of Nerts,
THIS was an epic day.
