We drove from the bottom to the top of Minnesota
For our next National Park:
Voyageurs!
We drove to “the end of the road”
To start our adventure.
Our first night?
A room at the Voyagaire Lodge
The van was just a little weighed down
We had it stuffed to the brim
And the tires were nearly brushing the wheel well
We had some time before dinner
So we set out on the Vermillion Gorge trail.
It made for some pretty pictures
The folks at the Lodge warned us the mosquitos were out.
We had heard about the mosquitoes from other people too.
We were NOT prepared for what that really looked like.
We were SWARMED by them.
We walked with our arms flailing and our hoods drawn up
But we couldn’t do it.
Three-quarters of the way into the hike,
After a lot of pleading,
Even Mom and Dad decided it was too much
And we turned—no RAN—back out of the woods
Not our favorite hike.
BUT…just was we were coming out of the woods
Some of our favorite people pulled up
It’s a Reed-Keim Vacay!
3 years is too long in between.
We took over the bar
And had drinks and food,
Played games
And talked well into the night
Can you see us all?
We shut the bar down!
It’s going to be a great week!
