Jackson Day 2: Awesome Plan B(ikes)

The day Mom had been excited for and dreading
was finally here--
paragliding day!
She said she woke up with butterflies in her stomach.
We got to the village nice and early,
filled out our pilot's license
(yep--we are all official pilots now!),
and settled in to wait.
The wait got a bit long.
The wind turned
and the crew was worried it wasn't right for flying.
We appreciated their attention to safety!

Rather than spend the day waiting,
we rebooked and moved on.

After a couple of false starts for breakfast,
we ended up filling our bellies at The Virginian
before setting off for Grand Teton National Park...
for a bike ride through the park!
Tucker was just sure he could ride by himself
(even though he hasn't made it more than a few blocks
on his two-wheeler at home).
It took some convincing and some tears,
but he eventually teamed up with Dad on a copilot
and we were off.

The smoke had cleared and
it was a glorious day!

We needed some good family pictures

Our longest ride to date is around 11 miles.
I think I'm up for more.
There was only 1 hill so far
and a lot of smooth riding

It was so pretty,
we had to stop for a few more pictures

I mostly stuck with Mema and Pappo

We were all a little jealous of their eBikes
(even if they only used the electric part a little)

The day was so nice

we ended up riding all 8 miles to Jenny Lake

We had a picnic lunch at the Ranger Station
(don't worry, we're working on our badges!)
and then walked a bit around the lake

You can see why it's a favorite spot in GTNP

A bit of bouldering

and more family pictures

and a few selfies, just for fun

Wow

We could have sat there all day
but we have more to see!

Mema brought the selfie stick we bought her for Christmas.
It took a bit to figure it out...
and then Weston stole it

There were a lot of pictures like this

On our short hike back around the lake,
we heard from some Rangers
there was a bear in the area.
They herded us back to the Ranger Station
and we thought that this was as good as time as any
to head to our next hike

Mom's friend recommended Taggart Lake
(she liked it better than Jenny)
so we decided to check it out.
It started out promising

Picture-worthy

The scenery was beautiful

with all sorts of different landscapes

to marvel at

A little over a mile and a half,
and we arrived

She was right.
Taggart Lake is amazing

We met a lovely group of people,
one of which turned out to be Dad's fraternity brother!
(A Sigma Nu from Rolla, around 20 years before Dad was there)
They were kind enough to take our picture

Sadly, the bikes had to be back by 5
so we had to hike back
and zoom back to the shop.
We got in 5 miles of hiking and 16 miles of biking!
A new family record!
We thought that called for a Tee Time in the Tetons.
So we headed back down the crazy, bumpy road
from Moose to Teton Village,
looking for a good place to stop
and enjoy the evening.
How about this???
Whoa.
Nice view.
A bunch of people were gathering around in the parking lot.
Turns out, it a regular watering hole for moose.

Sounds like a good watering hole for us!
(don't mind Mom and Mema's hair--it was windy!)
We sat for about 30 minutes at Moose Happy Hour.
We met a few more people from Kansas City,
but no moose.
We had some swanky dinner reservations tonight
at the Snake River Grill,
so we had to get back.

After we were all cleaned up and headed out,
look what wandered into our cul-de-sac?

Mr. Moose!
We've been looking for you!

Accompanied by Mr. Fox!
Well, that was a fun kick-off to the evening!
We had apparently had a bit too much fun today.
Tucker fell asleep at dinner
and I nearly did too.
Guess 21 miles of movement is my limit.
Or maybe I'm just resting up for tomorrow...
