We decided to rest our hiking legs for a few days
And check out Acadia a different way—
Via the carriage roads on bikes.
They were built by the Rockefellers as a way to explore Mount Desert Island
A bit slower, following the landscape.
We decided to take on one of the most popular paths.
First we circled Witch’s Pond
Which is known for it’s beavers and other wildlife…
But sadly, we didn’t see any.
We did take a spur to the Ranger Station
Which had a crazy-steep hill…
That we definitely had to walk up on the way back
(Even low gear couldn’t cut it).
Then it was on to the Tri-Lakes Loop
(Ignore Tucker in the background—he was less than thrilled about his bike.
He’ll be embarrassed of this picture—and his tantrum—one day)
We looped around Jordan Pond,
Which looked a bit different than it’s sunny version yesterday
Fog settled in in a few spots
Which was kinda fun to cycle through
The roads were fairly flat
And took us through some lovely forests
We rode past Bubbles Pond
(And laughed about our bus incident yesterday)
Before looping back around Eagle Lake.
We’ll be hiking again here in a few days
Mom wanted to stop for a family selfie,
Which seemed to confuse Weston
A lot
But we finally got it together
See you again in a few days,
Eagle Lake!
We had seen a few people eating berries along the road.
Mom and Dad got crazy and tried one…
They’re blueberries!
How can you not take a handful of those???
22 miles later,
Just as the rain let loose,
We cruised into town
And stopped off
For what was becoming our traditional
Pre-dinner apps and drinks.
Atlantic brewery was our stop tonight
Which was even better than our stop here 2 nights ago.
Everything was working out great…
Until we found out our dinner-and-a-movie was sold out.
Stupid rain, chasing everyone inside.
Whelp, we can pivot.
And you better believe we won’t miss it tomorrow night…
