Jackson Day 6: Who let the dogs out?

Lead by Beckett and his trusty flag
(That’s a thing!  So the cars see you coming!),
We trooped through town
To the Bunnery to fill up

Because dog sledding awaits us
The chaos of the dog yard
Was just as frenzied and hilarious as we remembered

A few of them were calm,
Especially after they were harnessed in

Team B and Dad are ready

Their dogs can’t wait!

Mema and Jack were in a sled together

They are all buckled in and ready to go

I fell in love with a dog named Falcon—
He didn’t run with us.
He was the leader of the morning crew.

But Mom and I got 9 other dogs
That couldn’t wait to run

And we are off!
We learned a lot about the dogs:

The smart ones that follow commands go in the front.
The less bright but energetic work horses go in the middle.
The real heavy lifters are in the very back.
And you always bring a “spare” leader—
Just in case one of the others feels mischievous.
They are all Alaskan huskies even though they look really different.
And they truly stay outside all the time—
They have 2 coats and don’t mind the cold.

And they LOVE to run.
And they are always impressive with their multitasking,
pooping and peeing and eating snow as they run.

When we got back,
They surprised us with some baby puppies to snuggle

Beck really wanted to take one home

Always an entertaining excursion.

On our ride home,
We came across a herd of bison
That had wandered right up to the highway.
These two bulls put on quite the show,
Butting heads and stomping their hooves.

Another gorgeous Wyoming evening

Dad suggested the kids take a video game break
While the adults head to the
Million Dollar Cowboy Bar

I think Pappo was so excited
He ran to the bar

4 games of pool and a bit of name calling later

And they were ready to pick us up for one last Jackson Hole dinner

We closed down Sidewinders
And played Right-Left-Center waaay too late into the night—
But that’s how you wrap up your last night in Jackson Hole.
