We prefer percussion!

Wes had a concert tonight
Featuring percussion only

They had 2 songs
(The first was our favorite)

He played aux on the first
And vibraphone on the second
It was probably our favorite concert of the year!

Can’t wait to see him shine in drumline next year!

Back on the track

Wes had his first track meet of the season
And decided to do a bit more running this year.
He ran the 800
Coming in 8th at 2:55.
Not too shabby!
He qualified for the triple jump too
And got a new PR—
8.75 meters.

Sounds like it could be a great year!

Happy St. Pat’s!

Maybe we’ll try some green drinks later
But we’ll start out the day with green gravy
On our Bs and Gs.
It tasted delicious
But was hard to look at.
Small price to pay to kick off St. Patrick’s Day!

Shockwave’s Rematch

The Broncobots had their second tournament this weekend
And had high hopes they’d come away with a bid to Worlds.
They were the 5th place team after the qualifying rounds
(Even though they were the highest scoring team—
All about the random team alliances)
And were the 1st pick by the 1st place team.
All the makings of a 1st place finish.

We watched a lot of battles—
Including the 3rd place alliance made up of the
LS West and LSHS teams—
But never spotted Jack…
Until we did!
He was busy taking pictures and videos
So we felt the need to take a few pictures of him

The elimination rounds were exciting.
The Broncobots’ alliance was a good one…
But they met their match against the 2nd place alliance.
With one loss,
They dropped to the lower bracket.
No worries.
We knew they could battle back.
And the battle?
The 1st place alliance (Broncobots and crew)
Against the 3rd place alliance (LSW and LSHS).

Drumroll…
Broncobots lost.
By ONE point.
Crushing.

They did win a design award
But not the one they needed to get to Worlds.
The final battle was a crazy one.
LSHS’s bot broke and their alliance had to play with just 2 bots.
Of course, they lost that round but only by 20 points (which isn’t a ton).
They made it back in the nick of time for the 2nd battle
(The final is best of 3)
And WON!
And then the final match…
They won as well
Getting a Worlds bid to LSHS and LSN.
Just to rub salt in the wound,
LSHS also won the Impact award.

It’s tough coming so close and yet not close enough.
Hopefully the 3rd and final competition will be the one to seal the deal.
Too bad we’ll be in Mexico.
Here’s hoping!!!

Meet Kobe Bryant

I’m a bit obsessed with all things basketball these days
So Kobe was an obvious choice when it came to
My 3rd grade Wax Museum project
I gave my spiel like a pro

My audience was impressed.

Happy March Birthdays!

We gathered at Mema and Pappo’s for a fish fry
For Aunt Mandy and my birthdays.
Oh man, it has been too long since we had catfish!

Then, of course, there was cake

And birthday wishes

Lots of toys

And bull riding

And horseback riding

And Wii-playing
Basically,
A lot of family fun.
Happy birthday, March babies!

Look out Central Missouri…here comes Shockwave

Jackson had his first robotics competition of the year today.
He’s on the marketing team again this year—
Checkout the logo he designed for their robot:
Cool, isn’t it?

Even cooler,
He tried out for the Impact Team,
The group that presents their plan, outreach, time commitment,
And robot design to the judges.
They compete for the Impact Award at each competition
Which would get them a spot in Worlds…
And he got on the team!

They clean up well!

Time to wow the judges!

The team did well
But lost 2 out of 3 in the finals.
They won a design award but not Impact.

A great first competition,
But they want more

Here’s hoping the next medal will be a 1st!

Playing his heart out

The season championship tournament was this weekend
And the Kings were here to play.

We battled back in our first game,
Coming back from a 10 point deficit
Bringing us even going into the 4th quarter.
We busted our butts and won by 6.

Bring on game 2!

They were a tough team
And we were down by 14 points at one point.
We battled hard…
but lost in the end.
It was a good season.
I LOVED it.
Can’t wait for next year!

Without any parents!!!

A Scattered Saturday

We were supposed to spend a relaxing weekend at the lake,
But, well, life.

But the weather is too nice
And the cabin is too fun
For us to completely call things off.

So let’s make this work.

Early Saturday morning,
Mom and Wes headed back to home
So Wes could catch the bus with his bandmates
For his first concert band contest
They got a I rating!

Jackson went back with them—
With his leadership position on the Impact Presentation Team,
he and his team had to finish and polish their binder and presentation
For their first competition next weekend

Beckett headed back too—
He got to go to the Sporting KC home opener
With all his buddies

And Dad and I?

We went fishing (but not catching).

Mom and Wes made it back in time for

A 4-wheeling Happy Hour on the beach.

Totally worth it.

It was a lovely evening

After all that driving,
We needed a lively evening.
Poker with Mema and Pappo never disappoint
It was a bit weird for our family
to be scattered all over place
But pretty sure everyone had a good time
Wherever they landed.

Quality not quantity

With no school today,
Mom took the day off too so we could head to the cabin.
It was supposed to be a glorious 3-day weekend
But, well, lots of other things popped up on the calendar.

In true Reed family fashion, that didn’t slow us down.

After Jack’s marketing endeavor on Thursday night,
We made it to the cabin around midnight.
Did we sleep in?
Heck no!
We’ve got fun to be done!
Beckett headed off to get his new 4-wheeler
And the rest of us got busy getting
The fishing boat we got from Papa Kim
Ready for its inaugural run on Truman.

A little chilly
But what a day to be on the water!

After showing off her amazing boat-backing-up skills,

We set off to find some fish.

Despite some really high-tech fish finders

The fish eluded us

Wes even deployed the 2-rod method
Without success

Well, at least we’re out

It was a bit chilly on the ride back

Ok, a LOT chilly

But we were up for it

Jack decided to spend his day near the water
Instead of on the water—
He blazed a trail below the cabin
Down to the water
(Can you see him there with his rake?)

Just as we were getting off the water,
We got a text on the family chat:
“You’re invited!
Hooter Hill Grand Opening @ 5:00PM March 1
Be one of the first to almost die on this one of a kind liability!
Ribbon cutting and drinks will be provided.”

We couldn’t pass that up!
He was right…it’s a bit of a liability.
We may need to work on the steepness
With a few more switchbacks.

A day like this calls for a trip to the VFW
For some shuffleboard and pool
Ending with a finale of fajitas and margaritas
At The Best (only) Mexican Restaurant in Osceola.

Whew.
What more can we possibly squeeze into tomorrow?

Upgrade

Every nearly 11 year old’s dream—
Another year older
Means a BIGGER 4 wheeler!
I got up bright and early to head to Boliver
To pick up my new 4 wheeler with Mema and Pappo.

I would have woke up before dawn for this bad boy!

The Lake Run

Mom and Dad often run at the cabin.
It’s the same path every time
Mom says it doesn’t get old.
All the way to where the blacktop ends

Past lots of lake views

And back up the big hill.
They say there is something about a good run.
