What’s a family vacation without some hiking?
Today we headed to one of Nevada’s state parks—
Valley of Fire.
Note: These pictures do not do the colors justice!
The drive in was gorgeous.
We were excited to get started!
After some research,
Mom picked out a 3.2 mile loop.
We started on Fire Wave
Obvious where it got its name!
It was breathtaking
The colors, the cool formations
Very picturesque!
Dad, taking in the view
Striped Rock was awesome
Look at all the changing colors
We did a ton of scrambling,
Blazing our own trails
It was hard to just stick to the path!
Pink Canyon was really pink
(Don’t mind my butt—catching the perfect picture)
There were all sorts of cool patterns in the rock
Then we headed into White Domes Slot Canyon
We LOVE slot canyons!
We found this cool window on the backside of the loop
It looks good close up too
Look what else we found out here?!?!
A tarantula!
Then it was back into slot canyons
Which clearly needed to be climbed!
And posed
And posed again
We did a bit more scrambling on the last stretch of our hike
Through the Seven Wonders
And it was beautiful until the very end
Wow.
We clearly need to expand to more state parks on our adventures.
We started to head back to Vegas
But thought we’d try out one more hike,
Maybe find a good spot to see the sunset.
Well, Mom, Dad and Jack did.
The rest of us were a bit jet lagged and stayed in the van.
Mom found the Rainbow Vista Trail
And it’s really cool-looking arch in the pictures
Turns out,
The arch was actually a little window.
And the “vista” was just ok.
So back to Vegas we go…
And this was our view for the drive.
Again, pictures don’t do it justice.
Mom and Dad agreed it was the singular, most beautiful sunset
They had ever seen.
We could have ogled a while,
But we had to get gussied up for dinner…
And our show!
We got tickets to Ka,
A Cirque de Soleil show.
The theater was incredible
No pictures allowed so we’ll have to describe it.
It was full of battles and acrobatics.
But the coolest part was the stage—
This massive video screen that could move in any direction.
Mom’s favorite part was when it turned completely on it’s side
And they had a battle on a field that looked like a Plinko board,
Flipping and sliding between the bars.
It was AMAZING!
We topped off our awesome day
With a stroll for some dessert
And a little popcorn craps for Mom and Dad
Now THAT’S a great day in Vegas!
